With both goalies incapacitated, Junior B (CSHL) forward straps on the pads for league game… then pitches a perfect shutout! While his twin brother scores a natural hat-trick in the same game!
Jay Roux, valuable veteran forward for the St. Louis Jr. Blues, had been trying to convince his coach Jack Behan to play goal this season for the Jr. Blues. Jay, who had no previous ice hockey goaltending experience, bought some used equipment and showed up for the Jr. Blues training camp with goalie gear in hand. An excellent camp in which he allowed the fewest goals of all the goaltenders, made Coach Behan realize he had an excellent 3rd string goaltender if needed. Flu bug and a foot injury later, Jay was in nets against the Motor City Chiefs on Saturday, October 31. Jay pitched a perfect shut-out stopping all 19 shots as his twin brother and line mate Justin led the team with a natural hat-trick and 2 assists.
On Sunday, November 1, Jay went back to his normal position as winger and contributed with a goal and 3 assists for a 4 point game. Coach Behan wasn’t surprised by either night’s effort as he explains: “Jay is as competitive a player you will ever see. His great athleticism allowed him to play flawlessly in nets. I’m not sure it was the prettiest of shutouts as his technique isn’t quite the norm. Lets just say he plays like a cross between Gump Worsley and Dominik Hasek. But he got the job done. Sunday was a vintage Jay Roux game with 4 points playing well with his twin Justin who had an 8 point weekend.”

I am one of those people who rarely complains. I am content with adequate service, at a reasonable price. That being said however, I do get frustrated with injustices and take the time to discuss them through the appropriate channels. For example, I had an issue with Commerce Bank last week. I called and explained my issue and Viola! The personal bank rep Janice was extremely helpful and made everything right, which made me very happy. So I called Janice’s boss and let her know how outstanding the customer service was. I call out the good and the conversely the bad (note: I have talked to way more bosses about great people than unhelpful people). This is not a disgruntled blog post, only an observation.
Jimmy Johns charged my credit card twice for a Beach Club. My total came to $7.33 and showed up 2x on my statement. So I wrote an email to corporate, and received no response. Weeks later I was a slightly upset that no one got back to me. Especially because I like Jimmy John’s. So I contacted corporate again, and this time, did something different. I also contacted them on Twitter. Later that night I got calls from 2 different managers practically begging to take fix my problem! This is not the first time this has happened. I also had a question for Mint.com and sent an email to them through the site. I heard nothing back. So I sent another email and a tweat… sure enough I received a prompt reply.
The moral of the story is, use Twitter as a tool to inspire people to get back to you. If you have a problem, don’t blast them right away. Simply let someone know you would like to talk. Most companies on Twitter are eager to listen.

If you tweat it, they will come. (←——-lame)
This article on Lifehacker.com spurred my interest because I realized there might be a correlation between people who have many ‘irons in the fire’, and those with ADD. Often times, people who are creative, passionate, and hard working, sometimes lack discipline and focus. You can’t have it all…
That is why some people end up bouncing from project to project and having trouble staying on task. While they are always moving forward and always creating, they are not always following through. In hockey terms, these are the same run-n-gun forwards who dangle through a whole team, make some nice moves, then get in on a goalie and fire it into their chest (or miss the net). We call these guys Swedish, as in all Swedish and no Finnish.
This is a great article on how to set creative constraints for yourself and establish time frames to be able to work on your Big Serious Projects (BSP’s) in small chunks.
(side note: Through this article I found MixTape.me and through that site, I found this song by Bright Eyes called “The First Day of My Life” to which the previous post references. Isn’t the internet amazing?)
