After a decent 1st period the score was tied 3-3. Team JD let down as usual in the 2nd period, just to make things interesting. Going into the 3rd the score was 3-6 and Finnegans started to celebrate after every goal. This only served to make Team JD mad enough to score 6 goals in the 3rd period to win 9-6.

LaBatt Blue Pond Hockey 2010 – Recap

February 17, 2010 Comments

Eagle River, Wisconsin (February 12th-14th 2010) – Team Jack Daniel’s

Game 1 vs Dirty Beavers -  Team JD came out unorchestrated and confused. Not accustom to playing pond hockey we were consistently in the wrong places at the wrong times. Due to a higher skill level we managed to keep the game close and ended up winning. WIN 16-12

Game 2 vs Mandy Badhattens – Again Team JD played a soft first half, but picked it up in the second to win by a final of 11-6. WIN

Game 3 vs Chicago Magic – A very emotional and hard fought game vs the Magic proved difficult for team JD. LOSS

After 3 games and a record of 2-1 team JD found themselves struggling for a playoff spot. With a +3 goal differential team JD found their way into the playoffs beating out another team with a +2 goal diff. So we made the 8th and final spot by one goal.

Game 4 – #1 seeded Goose Island vs #8 seed Team Jack Daniel’s1st round of the playoffs: The game was a rush from start to finish. With 3 min left the score was 7-7 and a goal with 2 min left gave Goose Island an 8-7 lead. JD was never able to tie it up and lost in the first round

In the finals, the Chicago Magic played Goose Island with Goose Island winning by one goal. It was a very close race and team JD will come back next year to claim the gold.

Spring 2010 – Game 5 vs Ecker (Bob Smith)

February 17, 2010 Comments

After getting back from a grueling weekend long hockey tournament in Wisconsin, linemates Jeremy LaMontagne and Brian Moseley were not up to their usually 100%. During a 10p game vs Ecker, team JD didn’t have enough gas in the tank to outlast the determined Ecker team. Hightlights of the game included Chris Moseley’s miraculous backhand pass in front to a waiting LaMontagne. Also noteable was C. Moseley’s behind the net pass to LaMontagne which he sniped high glove side. Just to be fair C. Moseley had a fantastic behind the net pass to brother Brian Moseley for a goal, and added a 3rd assist to Joe Cero with a shot and deflection.

FINAL: 8-5 Loss

Spring 2010 – Game 4 vs Finnegans

February 17, 2010 Comments

With regular goalie Robert Clark missing, team JD signed Missouri State goalie Nic Zamora to a one game contract. A few big saves in the first by Zamora gave team JD the confidence needed to play a complete game. At the end of the first period team JD was up. Then in the second period they got lazy. But true to form, in the 3rd they exploded with an onslaught of goals to finish the game with a 6-5 win and continue their 4 game undefeated streak.

GOALS:

  1. Chris Moseley (unassisted)
  2. Bob Saitta (unassisted)
  3. Joe Cero (Paul Saitta)
  4. Chris Moseley (Brian Moseley)
  5. Dan Kloppel (Brian Moseley)
  6. Paul Saitta

FINAL: 6-5 Win

Spring 2010 – Game 3 vs Sperr

February 3, 2010 Comments

After a quick 3 on 0 goal in the first period scored by C. Moseley, team Jack Daniel’s energy level dipped. A 3-1 lead after the first turned into a 3-3 tie after the second which left Team JD struggling. The tides turned after the only penalty kill of the game where A. Buller scored a shorthanded goal on a tic-tac-toe passing exchange with B. Moseley. Then with 3 minutes left, Jeremy LaMontagne added an insurance goal to seal the game 6-4. Team JD remains undefeated after 3 games, earning their first regulation win.

Goals:

  1. Chris Moseley (unassisted)
  2. Bob Saitta (Jason Sinecki)
  3. Bob Saitta (Joe Cero)
  4. Joe Cero (Dan Kloppel)
  5. Andrew Buller (Brian Moseley)
  6. Jeremy LaMontagne (Brian Moseley)

Spring 2010 – Game 2 vs. Bob Smith

January 28, 2010 Comments

Another game played very tight. We dominated in the first period getting off to a nice 5-3 lead about 1/2 way through the game. Then at the end of the second period we took a few penalties and let our foot off the gas. They came back to tie it 6-6 and then with 2 minutes left while shorthanded, Joe Combs scored easily on a breakaway to take a 7-6 lead. Shortly after, BJ tripped Paul Saitta in the corner giving team JD a 2 minute powerplay for the remainder of the game. Winning a faceoff in the offensive zone, center Bob Saitta got a quick shot off and then the puck was cleared the length of the ice. With 20 seconds remaining Joe Cero carried the puck into the zone and took a shot that deflected to the corner. I beat a defender to the puck and with 3 seconds left, heard Joe calling for it at the point. I made a backhand pass to the point and crashed the net. Joe settled the puck and with 1 second left shot on goal. Chris Moseley was there to tip in the game tieing goal with 1.1 seconds left on the clock. The game goes to a shootout.

I choose to shoot 2nd this time. After 2 shooters the score is still 0-0. They send their 3rd shooter out, and miss. I take the 3rd shot for Team JD. I skate in fast and put on the brakes at the hash marks. The goalie bites and starts to go down. With a quick snap shot I put the puck 5 hole and we win! Team JD is now 2-0 winning both games in a shootout with the Moseley brothers getting both game winning goals. Click here for last week’s recap.

Spring 2010 – Game 1 vs Finnegans

January 20, 2010 Comments

vs Team Finnegans

The games started off really fast on both sides. Team Finnegans scored first and Team JD countered all the way up to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation. There were goals by each team, in each period.

It went into a shootout and both teams were scoreless coming out of the regulation 3 shooters so it went to sudden death. We shot first, and Chris Moseley was up. He skated in on the left side, waited for goalie Ryan Mueller to poke check, then took it to the back hand and slide it in easily. Team Jack Daniel’s goaltender Robert Clark made an impressive save on Ryan Armstrong to seal the game for Team JD.
